According to the premier, there are short, medium and long terms plans to sort out water issues in the Ugu district municipality.

With the ongoing water crisis on the South Coast, a provincial government and local municipal delegation visited the St Helen’s Rock pump station and Bhobhoyi dam earlier today.

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Sihle Zikalala along with MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Ravi Pillay; KZN Cogta MEC Sipho Hlomuka; Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza; the mayor of Ugu, Phumlile Mthiyane; mayors and deputy mayors of all local municipalities are currently at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre after the site visit.

MECs and mayors inspect the pump station.

Briefly speaking to the media, Zikalala said they have short, medium and long term plans to sort out water issues in the Ugu district municipality.

“One of our short term solutions is that we keep sending water tankers to the communities in the next six months to a year,” he added.

The premier is yet to address the stakeholders and media at the sports and leisure centre.

More details will be published in the South Coast Herald on Thursday.
