Craft marketers ecstatic at construction of new stalls

Scottburgh’s craft market stall holders rejoiced after hearing that they will be getting new stalls constructed at their business site near the library in Scott Street soon.
Umdoni Municipality launched this new project with a sod turning ceremony last week with the aim of developing the craft market to boost the local economy.

Deputy mayor Mthandeni Mbutho addressed stall holders and the media at the Scottburgh town hall before heading down to the construction site.
Many local stall holders in Scottburgh explained that for years they have dealt with improper conditions on these grounds.
“We have no proper toilets here and have to wait until we go home or use a bush to relieve ourselves,” said a male stall holder.

Florence Fihlela, another stall holder who has been in the business for 33 years, mentioned that her biggest problem was dealing with the whoonga addicts in town.
“There is a building on these grounds we used to keep our goods in for storage when we go home, but these people on the streets would break in and steal everything by the time we come in the morning,” she said.
“I am happy to hear that better facilities will be built for us, so hopefully we don’t have to go through this anymore.”

Mbutho also ensured the local businessmen that the stalls and facilities will be kept in good condition and that there will be security measures put in place to avoid theft.
Stall holders were asked to do their share by looking after the new stalls once they are built as well.
It was also placed on record that there will be an upgrade of the Umzinto bus rank stalls too.
