Clean audit given for SPCA pair

Atkinson Attorneys said no irregularities were found and any allegations of financial impropriety against its clients were mischievous and without substantiation.

An independent chartered accountant has given the financials from the Lower South Coast SPCA a clean audit.

This is according to Atkinson Attorneys law firm, which is representing recently dismissed chairman Scott Kvalsvig and vice-chairman Carla Steenkamp.

Atkinson Attorneys said no irregularities were found and any allegations of financial impropriety against its clients were mischievous and without substantiation.

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) acknowledged receipt of the email correspondence and letter from the attorney.

“We wish to advise that we will vigorously defend any legal action taken. Our rights remain reserved in toto.”

Kvalsvig and Steenkamp were dismissed from the society by NSPCA late last year (December 31).

One of the reasons for their dismissal, according to NSPCA, was the failure to submit year end financials on time.

Despite two warnings and ample time, the LSC SPCA remained in contravention of the SPCA Act.

The outcome of their dismissal/reinstatement has yet to be finalised.
