Police wishes to remind the public, especially motorists to be extra vigilant when driving and stopping at intersections especially in the Port Shepstone CBD.
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge gave the following 10 safety tips:
1. Please do not leave valuables on the back seat when your car is parked.
2. Do not drive with your handbag on the passenger seat. Place it on the floor and use a hands-free kit to answer urgent calls.
3. Keep all doors locked at all times when driving.
4. Avoid driving with the window open if you are forced to take a call.
5. Your cellphone or neck chain can easily be snatched.
6. Beggars, criminals and unsolicited car-guards are looking for such opportunities when motorists are careless.
7. Ensure your vehicle as well as the boot is indeed locked as so-called car-guards have been seen checking vehicle doors.
8. Try and avoid parking your car for long periods unattended. If possible check on it randomly .
9. Be focused and avoid distractions such as loud music when driving and enticing shop fronts that draw your attention away.
10. Be aware of persons loitering at intersections or walking between traffic.
