Former policeman found guilty of killing wife

Intensive police investigation linked him to the murder.

Former policeman, Gary Govender has been found guilty of killing his wife Mantombi Pearl Govender in November 2018.

“Govender was found guilty at Scottburgh High Court on February 11 and the case was postponed to April 29 for sentencing at Durban High Court,” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.

According to Mhlongo, intensive police investigation linked him to the murder.

Govender has spent over three years in jail while his case was in court.

Mrs Govender was with her husband outside Leisuredene Village in Hibberdene when he fatally shot her in the head.

The police said Govender reported the murder, claiming that his wife had been shot by two unknown men.

Govender pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.
