Fish for hope raises funds for Akshay

In an amazing turnout, the foundation was able raise R78 000 in two weeks, bringing the total to R129 000 so far.

The Fish For Hope Foundation held a successful fishing competition last weekend, to raise funds for Akshay Maharaj who has been diagnosed with cancer.

In an amazing turnout, the foundation was able raise R78 000 in two weeks, bringing the total to R129 000 so far. The event took place at Stiebel Rocks, Pumula boat launch and Sea Park. The morning kicked off with favourable conditions.

As the day progressed the wind picked up and made fishing much more challenging, however all the participants braved the weather which led to some amazing catches.

Landing the biggest edible fish was Yusuf Motalla, while Ebrahim Peter walked away with the crown for reeling in the biggest non-edible on the day. Clayton Hugo was the day’s biggest catcher, having caught the most fish.

In the under 18 division, Tiashen Govender caught the biggest edible, with Shreya Jagerasan catching the biggest non-edible, while Nathan Pietse walked away with the most number of fish.

There is still R21 000 left to raise toward Akshay’s next treatment. The foundation extends its gratitude to all the individuals who donated, the anglers who took part, and the marshalls who came out to assist.
