Police wish to warn the public of an old scam that has resurfaced.
Members of the public are cautioned to be aware and suspicious of persons professing love to them where-after entering into a relationship, they are soon defrauded of large amounts of their hard earned pension savings.
Or, possibly the ‘boyfriend’ encourages the partner to resign to open a business after which the pension money disappears along with the boyfriend.
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said other scams also offer to double your money, where a substantial amount of cash is requested, where it will be prayed over, or blessed with special water and returned to you.
Fraudsters often take advantage of older persons who have retired by posing as retirement investors.
“If you have large pension funds or have come into a large amount of cash, it is advisable to approach your bank for sound advice on safely managing your money,” suggested Mpinge.
