Railway cable thief gets jail time
Five years of his sentence was suspended on condition that he is not found guilty of theft.
Patrick Kekane (45) was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment in the Durban Regional Court for theft of railway cables which occurred at Hibberdene in 2013.

A complainant was informed that railway cables were stolen on October 8, 2013. He went to the crime scene and noticed that 150 metres was missing.
Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of the Hawks said a case of theft was reported at Hibberdene police station.
The case docket was allocated to the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation.
Kekane was arrested in 2013, and his bail was successfully opposed.
