Ugu Cultural and Heritage Experience first day a success [VIDEO]
Day one began with an exhibition that saw creatives from all walks display their creations.
The three-day Cultural and Heritage Experience kicked off yesterday (4th) at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre near Gamalakhe.
Day one began with an exhibition that saw creatives from all walks display their creations which ranged from bead work, hand crafts, clothing and food.
Ten schools were invited to attend the exhibition.
“Art is a part of our culture and is sometimes neglected as not being that important, but this shows that art is just as important in shaping the future of our youth,” said Hlengiwe Mavimbela, MEC for Arts and Culture.
Amongst those in attendance was Speaker for Ugu District Municipality, Sizwe Ngcobo who showed his support for the initiative.
The evening ended with a movie premier of locally produced films by students from Esayidi TVET College.
The next two days will see a market set up take place today (5th) and is set to feature local and national artists with more culinary delights and crafts to be made available.
Sunday is set to be a family day at St. Michaels beach, and all South Coast residents are invited to join the festivities.
“We invite everyone to come with their families and enjoy a fun day of cultural festivities,” Mavimbela said.
