Lots to learn and enjoy at local art club

In order to attain this, a variety of talks, demonstrations and workshops are offered to club members.

Local art club, ‘Art by the Sea’ has some great activities planned for the new month.

The focus of the club this year is for members to portray the beauty of the coastal area of the Lower South Coast as well as bordering interior areas in their artworks.

In order to attain this, a variety of talks, demonstrations and workshops are offered to club members.

Last month, members were trained in line, form and shading, how to paint rocks and stones and watercolour techniques for beginners.

During month end, members showcased their recent artworks in an art appreciation session which in itself is a valuable learning tool.

March activities will include an outing to the Mission Church (inland from Southbroom) where members will paint ‘plein air’ (8th), social painting (15th), how to paint waves (22nd) and finally a monthly art appreciation session on the (29th).

The art club has a comprehensive and impressive collection of art books and magazines in its own library.

These are available on a lending basis, free of charge to all club members.

With the exception of ‘plein air’ outing, club members gather in the activities room of the Margate Art Museum every Tuesday at 09:00 for a two to three hour session on the subject of the week.

New members, novices and established artists are welcome to join the club.
