Top detective retires

After school, he did not hesitate to join the service in 1983 and completed an intense training programme at Hammanskraal Training College.

After 38 years of loyal service to the South African Police Service, Lieutenant Colonel Fana Moses Chagwe will be retiring to spend time with his lovely wife and family.

He plans to spend his well-deserved retirement fishing, farming and training.

Raised from humble beginnings in Qoloqolo area Mtwalume, he always wanted to pursue a career in policing.

After school, he did not hesitate to join the service in 1983 and completed an intense training programme at Hammanskraal Training College.

Chagwe readily admits that the Saps has positively changed him as a person.

He worked at Hibberdene Vispol, Port Shepstone Detective Service, as Branch Commander of Detectives at Msinsini as well as Harding.

Prior to his retirement, he worked on a service arrangement in the District Taxi Task team.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said it was here he spearheaded a number of serious investigations and with the ongoing support of his team was able to efficiently perform his duties.

A number of medals, awards and training courses over the years groomed him to be a respected commander, competent detective and loyal member of the organisation.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele and her management wish that only good health, happiness and prosperity follow him on the next part of his journey.

On behalf of the Saps she truly appreciates his dedication and unwavering commitment in delivering the highest level of service in the detective environment.
