Singers show off talent at karaoke champs
However there was no loser on the day as both teams will earn their South Coast colours and will make up a team of six set to participate in other competitions.
Having only been founded in early February, the Amateur Karaoke Association (AKA) held the final of the summer champs karaoke league at the Highland Fryer recently.
Sponsored by A 2 Z Second Hand Dealers, the inaugural summer champs title was won by the Illusions, a trio made up of Annika van Wyk, Rhona Steyn and Alicia le Roux, ahead of the South Coast Rookies who were the runners-up.

The final saw two rounds, where in the first, each team member sang a song each. In the second round, each singer went head-to-head with a member of the opposite team to declare a winner.
However there was no loser on the day as both teams will earn their South Coast colours and will make up a team of six set to participate in other competitions.
“We are excited to have been able to host this competition because we want to build world class karaoke singers, and with the unbelievable talent we have here it is possible,” said sponsor Gerrie Odendaal.

There were also performances by guest singers Jackie Meintjies and Louis van Wyk, along with guest performances by the judges.
Before the final kicked off, groups took part in the Highland Fryer trophy, a special competition held on the night which was won by the Suikerbekkies comprised of Martie and Melville Hollamby, along with Hannes and Mariska Jacobs.

“Thank you to all those who continue to support us as we never expected to grow this fast, and we look forward to touring and competing against other teams in other regions of the country,” Odendaal said.
All South Coast residents are encouraged to be on the look out for more nights of fun, laughter and karaoke hosted by the AKA.
