Fishermen Gordon, Hugo named champions

The Stirrer/Gees trophy went the way of Charmaine Poolman for being the member showing the best sportsmanship during the competition.

A total of 99 fish were caught during the BBS fishing compo which took place at a dam in Umzumbe recently.

Hugo Botha (heaviest) and Gordon Scholtz (most) were crowned champions for their efforts on the day.

The combined weight of these fish was 56.87kg.

Chris Lepan was named most promising newcomer.

Heaviest fish, from first to tenth, were caught by: 1 Hugo Botha 2.37kg, 2 Paul Malan 2.34kg, 3 Fanus Malan 2.16kg, 4 Charmaine Poolman 2.09kg, 5 Gary Leite 2kg, 6 Dirkie Swanepoel 1.93kg, 7 Chris Lepan 1.91kg, 8 Rob Daly 1.46kg, 9 Gordon Scholtz 1.04kg, 10 Johan Mahoney 0.65kg.

Charmaine Poolman has a blast at the competition. She was awarded the stirrer trophy, or best ‘gees’.

When it came to total fish caught and bag weights, the results were as follows:

1 Gordon Scholtz (25 fish, 4.27kg, 29 points); 2 Hugo Botha (12 fish, 12.4kg, 22 points); 3 Rob Daly (16 fish, 5.24kg, 21 points); 4 Johan Mahoney (16 fish, 2.83kg,19 points); 5 Fanus Malan (9 fish, 8.89kg, 18 points); 6 Dirkie Swanepoel (6 fish, 11.11kg, 17 points); 7 Chris Lepan (8 fish, 3.68kg, 12 points); 8 Paul Malan (5 fish, 4.36kg, 9 points); 9 Charmaine Poolman (1 fish, 2.09kg, 3 points); 10 Gary Leite (1 fish, 2kg, 3 points).

In terms of the Jacques Badenhorst floating trophies, the TFC (Thanks For Coming) trophy was awarded to Gordon Scholtz; the Stirrer/Gees trophy went the way of Charmaine Poolman for being the member showing the best sportsmanship during the competition, and finally, the Most Promising or Newcomer trophy was presented to Chris Lepan.

Thanks were extended to BBS Farm, all the competitors, weighmasters, Viskas, and all who were involved in making the day the success it was.
