Road upgrades underway in Sheppie CBD

Nelson Mandela Drive and Main Harding Road have received priority upgrading due to their condition and impact on traffic within the CBD.

Port Shepstone CBD looks like a mess at the moment but a mess that will change motorists’ lives for the better.

Getting in and of town for the past few weeks has been a mission due to Nelson Mandela Drive and Main Harding Road being upgraded.

From the Marburg traffic lights opposite the Ugu offices to the Sasol garage in Port Shepstone only one lane is open, and it’s only open to motorists coming into town.

Parts of Nelson Mandela Drive have been closed due to the upgrade, as it’s been reconfigured into a one way street.

Coming from Spillers Wharf one takes a right turn at the Marshall building to enter town. From Marshall onwards only one lane is open on the street.

Spokesperson for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Simon April asked people to be patient and apologised for the inconvenience.

Motorists are advised to use other routes to exit or enter the CBD.

The upgrade of services in town include water, sanitation, roads and electricity in support of developing Port Shepstone into a vibrant economic hub.

In a statement the municipality said that Nelson Mandela Drive and Main Harding road have received priority upgrading due to their condition and impact on traffic within the CBD.

Nelson Mandela Drive is expected to be completed at the end of November and Main Harding Road in January 2023.
