Beauty queen Dhayani honours late father

She believes that this crown gives her the power to make a meaningful difference in the mid-South Coast community.

Dhayani Nicole Naicker (24), a former Umkomaas Secondary School pupil from Lower Illovo, Kingsburgh has been crowned the new Shakti Beats Miss Beauty Goddess SA 2021 queen.

Dhayani has always dreamt about entering a beauty pageant such as this one, and finally had the courage to do so recently.

Due to Covid-19, the pageant had been delayed and the finals was held at Liberty hall in Durban last week.

The Shakti Beats Beauty Goddess and Mr Elegance SA 2021 National Pageant is an elite and prestigious pageant which brings together contestants from various provinces and different walks of life – some being aspirant models and others being dream chasers.

“The pageant is designed around the motto ‘beauty with a purpose’ not just for models, but for those that have leadership qualities and can be role models in the communities they come from,” she explained.

She believes that this crown gives her the power to make a meaningful difference in the mid-South Coast community where she resides and will strive to take on the responsibility to help the needy, be a role model for the youth and show others the true meaning of ‘beauty with a purpose’.

Dhayani wishes to promote the musical arts and create more awareness on her cultural upbringing, beliefs, religious practices and how people need to have mutual respect and acceptance of all castes, creeds, religions and sexual preferences.

“Since we live in a country which has a lot of beauty, yet is so culturally diverse, this is important to inculcate, making a difference to the stereotypes out there,” she added.

Dhayani stated that her sole influence and driving force behind trying out for this pageant was her family, but most of all, fulfilling the wish of her late dad.

“This took me out of my comfort zone as I have never done something like this before, but it was a dream I surely wanted to live, even just once!”

There were two factors taken into account within the judging format: one being the talent segment and two being the modelling segment.

On hearing her name called as queen, Dhayani burst into tears and in her mind said ‘I did it for you dad’.

She gives thanks to her family and friends for being with her on this journey, from showing her love and support to helping her make hair and outfit choices. A special thanks is also extended to the organisers of this fruitful event.

The Miss Beauty Goddess queen also advises young girls to follow their pageant dreams like she did and to never let the fear of failure get the best of them.

“To be afraid of failure is normal, but in a pageant just being on that stage already makes you a winner.”

“The accolades earned is the reward for your hard work, commitment and dedication, and most importantly don’t forget to be yourself.”
