Homeowners and customers have been granted an extension for a period of six months to settle their debt.

All residential customers owing the municipality are requested to undertake to pay 50% of the debt.
Ugu Mayor Cllr Phumlile Mthiyane said the amnesty period had originally been approved for the period September 2021 to February 2022.
She said the purpose of the amnesty period was to give homeowners and customers an opportunity to ensure their accounts were debt free or paid up to date.
“Non-compliance can be caused by numerous factors including financial constraints, hence Council’s decision to extend the amnesty period,” she explained.
Penalties waived during the amnesty period will be those that are over 120 days and paid between 30 days to 150 days after signing the amnesty application forms.
The following terms and conditions apply:
– Pay within 30 days to receive 50% off
– Pay within 60 days and receive 40% off
– Pay within 90 days and receive 30% off
– Pay within 120 days and receive 20% off
– Pay within 150 days and receive 10% off.
The municipality would like to re-iterate that the amnesty must not be construed as a relaxation of any standards, regulations, or legislation. It is simply an attempt to waive penalties for customers
