OPINION: No more words, just water MEC

How much longer must the people on the South Coast suffer before promises are translated into action?

If promises were water drops, the people of Ugu would have no crisis on their hands. But sadly, all the people of Ugu are getting is empty promises from their ANC led district municipality and their ANC led provincial government.

The DA in KZN would like to remind the MEC of Cogta and the Honourable Premier that article 27 of the Bill of Rights of this republic enshrines the right to water as a basic human right in this country. And as such the government is in violation of the Constitution in the ongoing, preventable and solvable crisis in the Ugu district.

How much longer must the people on the South Coast suffer before promises are translated into action?

How much longer must the people of Ugu wonder if the water will flow when they open the tap?

How much longer must the economy of the district suffer, tourists cancel their bookings, and the unemployment and poverty continue to grow, because the district and the province is just not acting to sort this issue out once and for all.

The MEC of Cogta has a responsibility to the people of Ugu to act swiftly and decisively to bring long lasting relief to the area. No more promises Honourable MEC, just action!

DA KZN Spokesperson on Cogta
