Hospital staff with a vision

This has caused a massive backlog in the ophthalmology department, specially with regards to cataract surgeries.

Murchison Hospital’s dedicated staff carried out a total of 46 successful cataract surgeries over two days at the end of March.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, all health facilities (both public and private), postponed elective (non-life threatening) surgeries to concentrate on lifesaving procedures.

This has caused a massive backlog in the ophthalmology department, specially with regards to cataract surgeries.

Struggling to catch-up on the waiting list of patients needing assistance, concerned doctors and staff of Murchison Hospital decided to go the extra mile and conduct an ‘Ugu Cataract Outreach programme’ which yielded successful results, and of course, happy patients.

The next outreach will be at St Andrews Hospital in Harding at the end of the month, and then GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh.
