Girl Guides write to leaders about climate change

The Port Shepstone Girl Guides recently got writing about the serious topic of climate change!
The girls were given three challenges to complete, and one of them was to write a letter for ‘World Thinking Day’ and be advocates for the theme: ‘Our world, our equal future.’
Panda Jolene Evans, who heads-up Port Shepstone Teddies, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers, said the girls’ letters will be handed to the municipality.
The young girls wrote a pile of interesting and powerful letters with a very strong message to their leaders of Ugu District Municipality and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, and roleplayers in the community.

Eliana, aged 11, wrote to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality: “We as Girl Guides request the municipality to create awareness within the taxi association and school transport system. We notice every day en-route to school, children throwing litter through the windows of taxis and school transport. The litter is making our town dirty and it kills our natural animals.”
Tamishka, aged 12, had a similar message: “We should recycle. People are destroying our environment by littering. We must go for beach walks and clean the beach because if we don’t people and animals will get hurt.”
Natasha, aged 12, wrote to Ugu: “Most of the time we don’t have water and along the roads all the pipes are burst. No one is taking action and fixing pipes. The water is being wasted and we don’t like watching the water being wasted. I suggest you hire people who can walk in the roads and check if the pipes are broken, or not – and if they can fix it. I am a 12 year-old who is upset because we aren’t getting water… I hope you notice what’s happening in our communities and try help fix it.”
