Four murdered in separate incidents

One of the victims was a learner who was studying with friends.

A learner was shot and killed in crossfire by two unknown men in Thongasi, KwaNzimakwe near Port Edward on April 5.

The learner who cannot be named at this stage was studying with a group of friends when they were caught in the crossfire.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said at around 21:00, a 25 year old taxi driver arrived at his place of residence in Thongasi, and two men fired shots at him.

“The taxi driver ran to another room nearby where five learners were studying and the suspects followed him. An 18-year-old learner sustained gunshot wounds to the head and neck and the taxi driver was shot several times in the head and chest. They were both taken to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The other learners managed to escape unharmed. The motive of the killing is unknown,” said Lt-Col Gwala.

In another shooting incident on the same day and in the same area, two men were at a flat in KwaNzimakwe at about 22:00 when they were shot at by unknown men.

A 27 year old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest and was confirmed dead on the scene.

The other victim was shot in the chest and arms and was taken to hospital for medical attention. Police are investigating and no arrests have been made.

Another murder docket has been open for investigation at Port Shepstone Saps after a 26 year old man was found dead at Mkholombe, near Bhobhoyi on April 10. “Siphesihle Machi sustained fatal injuries to the face.
