Double life sentence for murder of siblings

He pleaded guilty to all counts.

The man held responsible for the gruesome murder of two children in Qinabout, Gamalakhe on March 31 appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, last week.

Siyanda Khumalo (36) was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment and eight years for arson. He pleaded guilty to all counts.

Amkela (14) and Sandisa Zenda (6) were at their home in Qinabout when the murders were committed.

Their mother (34) had served Khumalo, her ex-boyfriend with a protection order and was at the police station when he committed the crime.

Khumalo had phoned the mother and told her he had killed her two children and was going to burn the house. When she arrived at the house, she noticed her home on fire.

Both children were burnt beyond recognition. Khumalo fled the scene and was arrested on April 5 by Gamalakhe police.
