Man dies after car catches alight on N2 highway near Hibberdene

All emergency services attended the scene but nothing could be done to save the man.

A man died when the car he was travelling in caught alight on the N2 near Woodgrange, Hibberdene yesterday (Thursday) evening.

Glen Preston from Medevac said his medics, together with other emergency services, arrived at the scene but the man appeared to have burnt to death.

“He did manage to get out of the vehicle, and either walk or crawl a short distance as he was found lying about two metres away from the burning vehicle. Bystanders said they saw the man still moving when they arrived, but the vehicle was ablaze and it was too hot for them to pull him away.”

When Ray Nkonyeni fire department arrived, the man was already dead. They dosed both the man and vehicle.

It’s unclear how the vehicle caught alight and this will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
