TRIBUTE: Neville Richards leaves lasting legacy

A dedicated and devoted principal, he always paid attention to detail.

Former Izotsha Primary School headmaster, Neville Richards, who retired in March last year, died suddenly in the UK last Friday, where he had been visiting his children.

Tributes have poured in from near and far for a man who was greatly loved and respected.

He dedicated 40 years of his life to his career in the department of education.

Twenty-one of those were spent as principal of Izotsha Primary School.

A dedicated and devoted principal, he always paid attention to detail.

His foresight and vision developed Izotsha Primary into the wonderful school that it is today.

He had many highlights during his time as principal where three new classroom blocks were built, as well as a sports hall, the school pool’s length was extended, projectors with interactive whiteboards and laptops were introduced in each classroom, together with air conditioners.

Neville Richards, former principal at Izotsha Primary School.

He was a hard-working, committed principal who poured his life into the school and its community.

He was a man of great knowledge yet he had a soft, kind heart.

An important part of his school life was leading the weekly assemblies and the annual prize-giving ceremonies where the school gathered together as a community.

He knew each child and their family by their name and was genuinely interested in each and every single learner, their parents and each staff member.

Neville was passionate about reading educational, inspirational and motivational books and always used quotes to inspire those around him.

Although his achievements were remarkable, he remained humble.

Education was his life and his work ethics were exemplary.

He worked tireless hours for the school, attending all sports events during the week and on Saturdays. He worked at the school on a Sunday, preparing for the week ahead, and often during school holidays, too.

Mr Richards retired at the end of March 2021.

He looked forward to spending time with his partner Jill, children Joanne, Mark and Michelle and grandchildren and was immensely proud of his children and their achievements.

He has certainly left a legacy that will be difficult to match.
