NSRI Shelly Beach receives special trophy in Vasco da Gama yacht race

The Vasco da Gama Ocean Race is the oldest coastal ocean race on the South African sailing calendar.

The legendary Minuteman Press Vasco da Gama Ocean Race race started in Durban and ended in East London on Tuesday this week.
Here are results from the race:

  • 1st on Line Honours – Regardless 2
  • 1st KZN boat over the line ORC Racing Fleet – Regardless 2
  • 1st PYC boat over the line ORC Racing Fleet – Regardless 2
  • 1st RNYC boat over the line ORC Racing – Fleet Magic
  • 1st Western Cape boat over the line ORC Racing Fleets – Rocket
  • 1st on Corrected Time ORC Racing Fleet – Sundance
  • 2nd on Corrected Time ORC Racing Fleet – Regardless 2
  • 1st KZN boat on corrected time ORC Racing Fleet – Sundance

SPECIAL TROPHIES
* Point Yacht Club won the Interclub Trophy awarded to the yacht club which performs the best in the race, taking into account the results of the first three boats over the line from any one club.
* NSRI Station 20 (Shelly Beach) awarded the Rubicon Memorial Trophy For Outstanding Seamanship.
* Neville Bransby received the Ken Smith Trophy Good Comradeship Award.
* Sean Jones received the Bentley Nuttall Trophy Navigator of the overall winning boat on Corrected Time (ORC).
* Jethro Milne of Regardless 2 was awarded the Choose Life Youth Trophy.
