PROTEST: Warning of chaos on R102 near Umzumbe [WATCH]

Motorists are warned to be careful when driving through the area.

Protesters have taken over the R102 near Umzumbe this morning (June 27).

So far, the N2 is open. But, this is an evolving story and may change at any time.

The group of chanting residents, some brandishing placards, are demanding water.

In March this year, motorists were met with burning tyres, trees branches and angry protesters blocking the roads.

Residents claimed then that they had not had water for months, and were desperate to get answers.

Activist Ibrahim Shaik from Better World Alliance was at the protest this morning (June 27), highlighting why the community has gathered to get answers from Ugu District Municipality.

At the time of publishing, protesters were waiting on the Ugu District Municipality Mayor Phumlile Mthiyane to address them.

Motorists are warned to be careful when driving through the area.
