Acting principal murdered

The teachers' union says it's shocked by the brutal murders.

The community of Kwa-Nyuswa, Nkulu Ward in Ezinqoleni is in shock following the news of the murder of Mthunzi Ngcobo and Msizi Ncayiyana last Thursday.

Ngcobo was the acting principal of Mshiywa Primary School and Ncayiyana the chairman of the school’s governing body.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the murders.

“On July 14, at about 19:30, two men, aged 48 and 32, were at Kwa-Nyuswa, Nkulu when they were fatally shot by unknown people,” she said.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

Charges of murder have been opened at Ezinqoleni police station.

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) in KwaZulu-Natal described the murders as acts of barbarism, robbing society of good and noble leaders and teachers.

Ngcobo was a Sadtu branch secretary in his region and a member of the local community policing forum.

Sadtu conveyed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the two men.
