Father, daughter arrested for fraud

The pair made their first appearance in court on Wednesday this week.

A company director (51) and his daughter (22), the sole director of her own company, appeared in the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s court yesterday (20th) for charges of fraud, forgery and uttering (putting forged money into circulation).

Hawks spokesman Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said this came after the two were arrested on the South Coast on Tuesday this week, in Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach respectively, by East London Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team.

It is alleged that in May 2020, the two companies represented by their directors, defrauded the Eastern Cape Department of Education by submitting fraudulent lease agreements, claiming to have offices in the Eastern Cape province.

Due to this misrepresentation, the two companies were awarded the tender meant for Eastern Cape aspiring business people.

The matter was reported to the Hawks and the investigation revealed that the department was defrauded by an estimated R4.3-million.
