E.COLI: Scottburgh beach closed till further notice

A sample tested showed the presence of critically dangerous levels of E.coli.

Scottburgh Beach has been closed since yesterday (Tuesday) due to the contamination of water. It is believed that test results showed the presence of critically dangerous levels of E.coli.

The warning came from Councillor Shara Singh, who recommended the beach to be closed immediately and further tests be conducted.

Therefore, swimming and all water contact activities, have been banned till further notice. Any contact with the contaminated water may cause health-related illnesses.

Umdoni municipal spokesperson, Sphelele Cele has also confirmed that the beach has been closed and added that Ugu District Municipality and Umdoni Municipal officials are on site.
