Goodie bag treat for ‘true angels’ at institute
Rotarians travelled on muddy roads to visit staff and residents of Indlu Yokuphephela in Mtwalume.
The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone recently visited Indlu Yokophuphela Skills and Training Institute for people with disabilities in Mtwalume, to deliver goodies for the wonderful volunteers who keep the home operational.
Joan D’ Arcy of Rotary said basic essential packs were made for the children and adults who are cared for at the home, and for the staff as well. Despite having to negotiate the muddy roads leading them to the home, they were warmly welcomed by the carers.
“It was so good to see the improvements that have taken place since we were there last. The home has a working water tank with pipes, new curtains made by the residents and beautiful airy rooms. The staff and carers working there are true angels. It takes a special person to care for mentally and physically disabled folk,” said Joan.
The Rotarians also had a presentation by NSRI Shelly Beach and Durban last Friday. It was presented by Helen Wienand from the Durban office on the work done by NSRI in sea rescue, lifesaving courses, swimming lessons and more.
Club president Frank Vincent said the NSRI volunteers surely deserve recognition for all the hard work they do.
In recognition for this, Helen was presented with a Rotary certificate by Dell Pendock, who also gave the vote of thanks.
