Bike, buggies and Fallen Friends unite for SPCA
Wolf Security was part of the collection drive, ensuring that the convoy was safe
Fallen Friends has been fundraising on the South Coast, mostly for South Coast Hospice, for around 11 years.
The group’s most recent project saw a change of direction, with a donation drive called Run United, aimed at raising funds raised for the LSC SPCA.
It saw the Crusaders Motorcycle group join up with KwaZulu-Natal South Coast Buggies in a ride from Port Shepstone to Port Edward. They made numerous stops along the way, collected food and blankets for their fur friends.
Fallen Friends chairman Theresa Knox said the ride had been a tremendous success.
The handover was held at Crusaders clubhouse at the Margate Airport.
“Little did we know what support we would get. Arriving at each venue to collect the food was an incredible experience, seeing what our wonderful community had left for the fur babies. We received blankets, plenty of pet food, cat litter and even shampoo to bath the animals. A true community has come together again as one,” said Theresa.
She said the handover of the food was the most emotional part of the day.
“Seeing the vehicles being emptied out we realised how we were blessed with the fundraiser. We had over 30 buggies and over 30 bikes who rode together in unison to help us collect the food. We grateful for the help of Wolf Security who accompanied us on the road to keep us all safe.”
Apart from the food collection, a pool competition, raffle and an auction helped bring in an additional R10 000.
This will be split between the SPCA and the sterilisation account at the SPCA vet for the feral colony being looked after by Trudie Roets.
“Fido, the SPCA collection mascot doggy, has been standing at Buccaneers since December and on Saturday was taken with the Buggies and went home with a ‘full tummy’. We received another R750 in donations with him.”
