Umdoni Community Justice (UCJ) is a new and locally established non-profit organisation which focuses on community-based needs and the safety of locals.
Founder, Hennie Potgieter, stated that this unique initiative was created for the Umdoni community as a ‘helping hand’.
It is not a security company and there are no future plans to register UCJ as such.
Potgieter said there are enough security companies in the town to fight crime.
He explained that the organisation works closely with Mazizi Protection Security Services, which is also one of its main donors.
There are numerous services offered by this community-driven NPO.
It entails being a liaison with all platforms when it comes to emergencies (of all natures) and includes an ambulance service and, based on the nature of the emergency, UCJ would notify a doctor in case of a medical emergency (such as a heart attack).
The NPO is integrated with the necessary platforms that offers doctors and medical attention.
“Importantly, one needs to understand that medical practitioners are only available should there be a life-threatening emergency,” said Potgieter.
The NPO, integrated with Umdoni Private Ambulance Services, also helps arrange medical response, ensuring attendance is fast and effective.
It offers general street patrols and observation reporting of criminal activities, giving feedback to authorities where needed.
It will assist with day-to-day challenges as a courtesy service, such as changing a flat tyre or assisting vulnerable people on the road due to mechanical failure of a vehicle or associated incidents, and much more.
“Our elders in this town need assurance that there is a helping hand available around the clock,” said Potgieter.
Denzel Potgieter will be the go-to-guy from the NPO.
He said UCJ has been officially operational since last month and is hoping that, through this organisation, he will be able to develop a personal touch with the community.
He also explained that UCJ does not offer alarm monitoring or a primary security service.
“I am very eager and passionate about working with the locals and I can ensure the public that this NPO will serve the community with transparency and integrity.”
He said that director and owner of Mazizi Protection Security Services, Sijadu Dlamini, has been very supportive and that the Scottburgh community can be assured of his loyalty and support.
“We would also like to make an appeal to the public to donate to this NPO to help grow it as we rely on public donations to keep us going.”
There are WhatsApp groups in place to keep in touch with UCJ and the team is hoping to launch an app soon.
This will make it fast and efficient for elderly folk to get in touch by a simple click of a button.
