Football club to honour fallen player

The 27-year-old was described as a humble soul who loved the beautiful game and left everything in the field of play.

After the death of Nsizwa Silangwe, Sinenkani FC announced that it has decided to retire jersey number three for the next three years in his honour.
Sinenkani FC confirmed the passing of its defender last week. It was reported that he died after a short illness on December 10.

The 27-year-old was described as a humble soul who loved the beautiful game and gave everything in the field of play.
The KwaNzimakwe resident was also described as a talented defender who loved to give iconic hugs and small talks to other players.

In a statement, Sinenkani FC said it wished to extend gratitude to everyone for the support and comfort during the the difficult time.
“From the day the news of his passing was heard, messages and support have been pouring in to both the team and the family. Supporters of the team and those who supported Nsizwa, friends, neighbours and former teammates have been with us as the Stubborn Nation and the Silangwe family until we all gave him a befitting send-off for a man who has made so much contribution to the football fraternity at large,” read the statement.

It added that in honour of Silangwe, the football club will retire jersey number three for the next three years, saying that no Sinenkani FC player will wear jersey number 3.

“Also as part of keeping Nsizwa’s legacy alive, next year, Sinenkani FC will host Nsizwaziphelele Silangwe Tournament U/21 in his honour. This initiative is aimed at affording the opportunity to the youth of Nzimakwe and surrounding areas to showcase their talent. May we all find peace in knowing that it all was God’s decision and may we all allow our brother to rest in eternal peace,” read the statement.
