One dead and several injured in head-on collision near San Lameer
Relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
One person died in a head-on collision involving a taxi and a car on the R61 near San Lameer, near Southbroom, earlier this afternoon.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the scene and provided medical attention to the multiple patients involved.
According to spokesperson, Craig Botha, the incident resulted in one fatality, while eight people sustained serious injuries, and five others had minor injuries.
Botha said paramedics treated patients on-site before transporting them to various area hospitals.
“The details of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts are also with those injured and their families. We commend the professionalism and dedication of our first responders,” said Botha.
He added that an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently under way by the relevant authorities.
“Further updates will be provided as they become available,” he said.
Official comment from police has not yet been received.
