Eskom update on storm-related damage and network faults for South Coast

Eskom apologises for the inconvenience caused and assures customers that all necessary resources have been mobilised to safely restore supply as quickly as possible.

Eskom KZN informs customers and stakeholders of electricity network damages and supply interruptions resulting from the severe storms experienced across the South Coast Area on December 21.

As a result of the adverse weather conditions, the following areas have been affected:

* Marina beach: Mvutshini, Nzimakwe, Gcilima, Shobashobane, Braemar area under Marina, Nositha, Palm Beach, South Broom, and Manzamhlophe.

* Greenpoint: Umgababa and Dududu areas.

* Park Rynie: Braemar, Shayamoya, and Umzinto areas.

* Marburg: Eskom teams are still conducting fault-finding. Areas currently affected include Paddock, Oribi Gorge Lodge, and the Uvongo Industrial Area.

* Harding: Singisi area.

Eskom technical teams are on the ground conducting fault-finding and repair work.

Electricity supply has already been restored or partially restored in some areas, while investigations and repairs continue in others.

At this stage, there is no estimated time of restoration for the outstanding faults, as the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

On the Idwala–Nkonka 132kV line, several towers have collapsed due to storm damage, Idwala and Sezela Mill customers may also be affected if Oribi side is lost.

Eskom is engaging internally and with relevant stakeholders to determine the most appropriate recovery plan.

Although there is currently no loss of supply to customers linked to this line, it remains out of service and poses a potential safety risk.

Eskom urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution and to stay away from electricity infrastructure, including power lines and network equipment, as these may still be live and could pose a danger to people and animals.
