‘It ended in tears’ for motorist fleeing RTI in Ramsgate

The officers were praised for their brave work.

A motorist who reportedly went through four red robots, while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
That’s according to a post on social media by the KZN Department of Transport RTI.

“It ended in tears. He ran away and hid inside a house but this did not help,” said Siboniso Duma, the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements.

“This motorist was driving under the influence of alcohol in Ramsgate on the KZN South Coast. He went through four red robots. He drove towards oncoming traffic. To top it all, he fled and hid inside a house,” said Duma on the KZN RTI Facebook page, where a video has been posted.

“His relatives tried to fight with our no-nonsense RTI, who called for backup. More RTI members arrived, along with Saps. It all ended it tears for the motorist.”

Duma paid tribute to RTI and Margate Saps.

“A female RTI officer and her colleague were brave and fearless in defense of innocent road users. They pursued this reckless driver. He is in jail now and facing a litany of charges. I salute the RTI and Saps.”
