Venture further: Tank 300 turns heads
It is designed with off-road DNA and a robust chassis to handle tough terrains.
You know a vehicle has something ‘cool’ when it gets stares. If it happens once, you may think the person is an admirer of a certain type of car, but when it happens repeatedly well, then you have to say it’s making an impact.
That was the case when I got to drive the GWM Tank 300 (2.4TD Luxury) for a few days.
First stop was the school to fetch the kids on a Friday afternoon – packed carpark, loads of looks.

It’s a rugged vehicle, sturdy without being too square. I would say it possesses presence. It is designed with off-road DNA and a robust chassis to handle tough terrains.
Next stop was to drop kids at youth. Again, more interest, including from a friend who surprisingly perhaps, knew more about the vehicle than I would have expected.

“That’s the entry level 4×2, right,” he said. He was correct, it was the entry level, and it was great, so anything further up must be even more so.
On the road, the Tank is quiet and smooth, despite its robustness.
The 2.4-l turbo diesel engine produces 135kW and 480Nm of torque, with fuel efficiency of 7.7l per 100km.
The sunroof and roof racks hint at its eagerness to go outdoors, or as the slogan suggests, to venture further.

Inside it is abundantly spacious and aesthetically pleasing, super trendy and no ‘plastic’ feel whatsoever that other earlier vehicles from China may have had.
It comes with many bells and whistles and tends to police itself in various ways. Go over the speed limit and it pings you.
Warning visuals, thanks to the 360-degree camera, flick on the screen if you are approaching any sort of danger, be in reversing or on the road if another car comes too close.

Everything is within easy access and touching distance. I didn’t find myself scrambling to find a button or switch like I have in some other top end vehicles.
It has a 3 000kg braked towing capacity and comes with a seven year/200 000km warranty.
