Pensioners urged to be vigilant

Be careful after withdrawing money.

Police warn those who withdraw government pensions to be cautious, especially the elderly.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said criminals and loan sharks rob and abuse the aged when it comes to their pensions.

Pensioners are strongly advised against loaning money from ‘loan sharks’ and handing over their pension cards and identity documents until the money is paid back. In addition, be alert and conscious of your surroundings when using the ATM and never give your card or PIN to anyone, for any reason.”

Do not write your PIN on the card or anything that is kept with the card.

Stand close to the ATM and use your body and hand as a shield to make sure nobody sees you keying in your pin.

Never accept help from strangers when using an ATM. You should be wary of strangers asking for help.

If you need help, ask a bank official.
