No bail for doctor in rape case

He appears in court this Friday.

A 42-year-old doctor based at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and who is facing a charge of rape, appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

He was denied bail during a formal bail application.

Port Shepstone Saps opened a case of rape after a woman (20) said she was raped by the doctor at the hospital on August 28. The woman had gone to the hospital to receive treatment for wounds when the incident occurred.

After his arrest, the doctor was suspended. The suspension was served by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health.

The case has been postponed to Friday, September 16, for further evidence in the bail application.
