Stiff sentence for unlicensed firearm holder

Court sentences man for unlicenced gun

Sandile Shazi (41) was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of R20 000 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the Ezinqoleni Regional Court recently.

Shazi was further sentenced to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of R8000 for possession of ammunition.

Shazi was arrested in August last year during a joint operation by Port Shepstone based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police at Emahlabathini area in KwaNyuswa.

Police spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said he appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced.
