Woman in court for opening false case

The woman will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this week.

A woman (41) from Margate has been charged with defeating the ends of justice and perjury after she led local police to believe that she had been kidnapped, robbed and raped last week.

Police immediately opened a case and began investigating, but found the events to be untrue.

Police spokesperson Captain Petros Mpinge said the woman will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this week.

The public is warned against opening false cases, even for insurance purposes as this takes away police resources and valuable time from serious cases.

Persons found guilty of opening false cases will face prosecution and have a criminal record.
