Special investigation promised into senseless murder of Port Edward cop and his family

A team from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has been selected to look at all angles in order to find those responsible for the senseless killings.

The Police Ministry and the Saps top brass led by National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola received a briefing earlier today (Tuesday, January 24) on the murder of a Port Edward Warrant Officer Roger Mavundla (49) who was gunned down with his family, including two children last Saturday.

Police Ministry Spokesperson, Lirandzu Themba said a comfort visit to the family home is now underway where the family of Officer Mavundla have been assured that a team from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has been selected to look at all angles in order to find those responsible for the senseless killings.

Themba added that the third child, seven-year-old girl, is fighting for her life in hospital.

The Pretoria delegation are taken through the crime scene where Mavundla and his wife and children aged between 17 and 7 were ambushed and shot at, while inside their car meters from home.
The officer, his partner and two children died at the scene.
