Diesel thieves nabbed by Margate detectives

Police believe the same suspects might be involved in a similar case which occurred a few weeks ago.

An intensive investigation by Margate detectives led to the arrest of a group of men linked to the theft of 50 litres of diesel.

Margate police responded to a complaint of robbery which occurred at Ngwemabala location in Lamonti where it is alleged that the complainant who was at work noticed four men carrying firearms.

Two of them were carrying two-litre empty water containers.

Police spokesperson Sbu Nicane said they went into an excavator tank and drained the diesel. They also took the complainant’s cellphone and fled.
Police believe the same men might be involved in a similar case which occurred a few weeks ago.

“Police managed to arrest them, they are all aged 24, and recover the diesel. They were charged and detained for armed robbery and are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s court soon,” he said.

Margate station commander Brigadier William Slabbert praised the members for the swift arrests and recovery of the property.
