Three taxi owners gunned down in three days

Police say the motive for the killings are unknown at this stage, and no arrests have been made.

In a space of three days, Gamalakhe township has lost three taxi owners, who were brutally murdered.

Sandile Khwela was shot dead in Gamalakhe last Saturday night. Khwela was also ANC branch treasurer for the David Sobhoyisa branch ward 28.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Gamalakhe police are investigating a murder case after a 47-year-old man was fatally shot at Popo Village.
“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.”
The motive for his killing is unknown at this stage and police are investigating.

Mamti Mseleku, secretary of the ANC in ward 28 said they have lost a true leader.
She described Khwela as a very peaceful person who always fought for what he believed was right.

“He has done a lot of good things in our ward and he always wanted to see the good in every person. I guess it was God’s will and there is nothing we can do.”

While Gamalakhe was still reeling from this incident, two men were shot dead at Lamalia robots in Gamalakhe on Monday morning this week
Bheki Ngcongo (48) and Maphiwe Shange (40) were murdered in a hail of bullets by two unknown suspects.

It is believed that the incident is taxi-related, as both victims were owners.
According to a source, about 40 rounds were fired at the victims while they were turning towards Margate.
It is also believed that cartridges from an AK47 were found on scene.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Gamalakhe police are investigating two counts of murder after an incident in which two people were allegedly fatally wounded by two unknown suspects.

“It is alleged that the victims were travelling from Gamalakhe township when they were ambushed and fatally shot near Lamalia robots. The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a getaway vehicle. The motive for the killing is unknown”

No arrests have been made.
