Stay safe during loadshedding

Police have issued the following safety tips.

The Saps advises the public to be extra vigilant of their safety during loadshedding, especially at night.

People are requested to ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked and to install at least one outside solar light.

“If you hear an unfamiliar noise do not go outside to investigate,” said Captain Petros Mpinge, Port Shepstone Saps communications officer.

“Contact a neighbour, flush the toilet or put on a rechargeable light to let the intruder know you are awake and aware. Contact your security company if you have one and also keep your phone charged.”

Police also advise people to remove or trim large bushes and hedges in front of properties as well as adjacent to the house, to prevent criminals from hiding and watching your movements.

Lastly, remove unused or old metal and objects from your property that may draw criminals to your home in search of scrap metal.
