Business robbery leads to shooting

The incident occurred in Umzinto.

Earlier this month, Umzinto Saps responded to a business robbery at an Umzinto store.
As per the complainant, four men charged into the shop and one of them was in possession of a knife.

“They fled on foot with four bags containing jeans, and it’s alleged that one of the suspects was shot at the taxi rank by a security officer who had been pursing him,” said Captain Adam Francis, Scottburgh Saps communications officer.

“The 25-year old suspect died later in hospital.”

During the same incident, it is alleged that the security officer who had pursed the suspect was also shot and he has been hospitalised since.

A 40-year old man recently appeared in court on an attempted murder charge and has been released on bail.
