Kathy Scrooby found guilty of fraud
Brigadier Gregory Gaillard praised the investigators and prosecutors for ensuring that justice was served.

Hibberdene resident Aletta Caroline Scrooby (52), also known as Kathy Scrooby, was found guilty of fraud and sentenced in the Middelburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court recently.
It was reported that during April 2018, Scrooby visited Scania, a company in Middelburg alleging that she was the owner of Phakamisa Logistics, and that she had been awarded a transport contract in one of the mines and requested a quotation for 90 G460 Scania trucks.
She then sent fraudulent proof of payment to Scania amounting to R1 724 885.
It was then discovered that Scrooby used a VAT registration number for a known client of Scania and the money she alleged to have paid in their account never reflected.
The matter was reported to the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. During the investigation Scrooby was linked to the crime.
The investigation was finalised and the matter was brought before court. Scrooby was arrested and released on bail.
She attended court on several occasions and after the investigation was concluded, she pleaded guilty and was convicted.
Scrooby was sentenced to six years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years, on condition that she is not convicted of fraud or competent verdict on charge of fraud during the period of suspension.
Acting provincial head of the Hawks, Brigadier Gregory Gaillard applauded the investigating team and prosecution authority for ensuring that justice prevailed.
