Copper cables stolen at water station

Ugu said the incident has been escalated to Eskom.

Gamalakhe residents might not have water for a few days due to copper cable theft which occurred on Monday last week.

According to a statement issued by Ugu, an Eskom cable was vandalised at the Gamalakhe Sports and Leisure water pump station which is non-operational at this stage.

A cable connection from the Eskom pole to the water station was dug up and cut.

It is believed the stolen cable costs at least half a million rand and was stolen for resale.

According to Ugu the incident has been escalated to Eskom. Power restoration and turns around times will be communicated once Eskom had notified the municipality.

The municipality said relief water supply will be provided to Gamalakhe communities, should the matter not be resolved soon.
