KwaNzimakwe community leaders shot dead
Bibion Jaca and Phindile Ntshangase Shazi were killed while travelling together at Nkulu ward in KwaNzimakwe.
Residents of KwaNzimakwe are in shock after their community leader Bibion Jaca was shot dead in Nkulu ward recently.
At the time of the incident, Jaca was travelling with Phindile Ntshangase Shazi, also a community leader, who sustained injuries and died in hospital on Monday morning last week.
Jaca was a teacher in the Eastern Cape and a leader of ‘Phakama Nzimakwe wethu’ community group.
The group was formed to assist with service delivery. Jaca was well-known and helped a lot with various projects.
His uncle Vusi Nqoko said that they don’t want to assume what happened to him because the matter is being investigated by police.
“He was very passionate about helping his community and he wanted development for KwaNzimakwe.”
Nqoko said the family will suffer the most because his nephew was the breadwinner.
“He was supporting nine family members, excluding his own children.”
Jaca also helped with water challenges in the Thundeza area.
Shazi’s sister, Thandeka Ntshangase said the family is hurt because her sister was fighting for development in their community.
“The hospital told us she died of gunshot wounds, we are deeply hurt because she was only fighting for the future of our children. What they did only benefited the whole community.”
The acting chairperson for the group, Nkosi Mkhize said that Jaca had done a lot of good work and some people were unhappy about it.
He was described as a one in a million person.
Police were contacted for a comment, however no response was received at the time of going to print.
