Keep your cash safe

Police issue safety tips to keep money safe.

Police from the Ugu District have issued safety tips for the public to ensure that hard earned money is kept safe always.

When at an ATM, people are advised not to ask for help from strangers and to never disclose PIN numbers to anyone.

Should you receive a message stating you’ve won a competition that you did not enter, be very cautious and do not respond with any personal information.

Carry as little cash as possible and do not display money in public. Police encourage people to use alternative banking methods such as cellphone or internet banking instead.

When in possession of a handbag or wallet, wear the handbag across your chest and zipped up if possible. Do not at any time leave your handbag or wallet in a trolley while shopping.

In terms of stokvel, arrange for stockvel savings to be deposited directly into your account instead of having large amounts of cash on you or in your home. Also try to keep the date and amount of your stokvel withdrawal confidential, and have someone reliable accompany you if it is necessary to make cash withdrawals.
