Three cattle carcasses were found when searching a vehicle.
Police recently arrested seven suspected stock thieves for being in the possession of slaughtered stolen cattle.
While manning a vehicle check point on the R612 road in Sawoti, police spotted a suspicious vehicle which was stopped.
“Upon searching the vehicle, they recovered three carcasses of cattle,” explained Saps spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
“Two men were duly arrested and further investigations led the investigating team to J Section in Umlazi where five more men were nabbed in possession of three more carcasses of cattle.”
The men were found while washing vehicles believed to have been used for the stock theft.

The two men who were arrested in Sawoti have since appeared in the local magistrate’s court for possession of suspected stolen cattle and were remanded in custody. Their case was postponed and transferred to Highflats Magistrate’s Court.
All five of the men, aged between 24 and 34 years old, have been charged with stock theft and have already been linked with cases in Msinsini and Highflats.
“The slaughtered cattle were positively identified by the owner who is a farmer at Highflats,” added Colonel Netshiunda.
“The men are believed to be members of a syndicate which was terrorising stock owners in the Ugu and Harry Gwala districts.”
